3253 - Pinnacles
3253- Pinnacles 8-9th August
On Saturday morning we will leave from gate one at the Waikato University at 8 am and make our way towards Thames and then up to the Kauaranga Forest Park. Once there we start the tramp up newly repaired track up to the hut (which according to Doc times takes approximately three hours), so a relatively easy trip. If you want to bring along children or if you just want a easy weekend walk with some awesome views this could be the one.
Once at the hut we can explore around the hut then later in the day walk up to the pinnacles as hopefully it will be a fine clear night and we can watch the sunset over Tauranga and the Western Bay. For those that are keen they may also rise early and repeat, except to view the sunrise.
The Hut is large and well equipped with a kitchen with gas stoves so no need to bring your own stove, large dinning areas even a barbecue. The bunk rooms have enough nooks and crannies so you have some privacy
On Sunday we can explore what we haven’t seen on Saturday for example the old kauri dam then back down the way we came to the van and perhaps check out Thames and another couple of short walks or the beach.
So it’s an easy trip where you don’t have take a tent or cooker just a
take a little food, sleeping bag and nibbles.
Please book a bunk in the hut first via the Doc website and confirm that you’ve done so when you book the trip.
