3266 - Kaitarakihi Summit

A challenging day hike to Kaitarakihi Summit in the Coromandel ranges. Tracks starts from the 25A Kopu Hikuai main road at 425m. Follows an undulating track which crosses rugged terrain, tracks ends with a steep 150m climb assisted by chains to Kaitarakihi summit (852 m). Return trip is approximately 5–6 hours depending on stops. Can be very slippery after rain, so will need boots or trail shoes with good grip. For those not comfortable with the final climb, there is a suitable place near the before the climb to wait. Trip may only proceed with reasonably fine conditions leading up.
