I chose this film because of its Christmas theme and because it has a very good reputation. I haven’t seen it yet but every person I have spoken to that has seen this film has loved it. The film is based on an actual event that happened in the trenches in the first world war.
I know that this film will appeal to you all and hopefully you can make it.

Description:
On Christmas Eve of 1914, a remarkable event took place in the trenches where the Germans faced the British and the French. There was a spontaneous cease-fire, as the troops on both sides laid down their weapons and observed the birth of the saviour in whose name they were killing each other. The irony of this gesture is made clear in the opening scenes of "Joyeux Noel," in which schoolchildren of the three nations sing with angelic fervour, each in their own language, about the necessity of wiping the enemy from the face of the earth.
Reviews:
· This is one of my favourite Christmas movies because it depicts a true event of WWI as well as promotes a strong message of peace. In WWI there was a spontaneous Christmas truce in the trenches among the German, English and French soldiers.. This trilingual film imagines the story of how this night might have come about, how it played out and how it all ended.
· The story is a great one and shows how these men from both sides were able to put aside their differences for one night and come together to celebrate the birth of Jesus. The only problem was that now that the enemy had a face and a name it was difficult to go back to fighting!
· A wonderful story about humanity in the face of war. While this story is fictionalized, it is based on real events that occurred spontaneously along the trenches of the Great War.
· This is a very under-rated yet lovely and powerful movie that takes place during WW-1. In it, during the Christmas season, the fighting stops and the troops of all sides (French, British, and German) meet in "no man's land" to befriend each other, trade gifts, and sing Christmas music.
· Our whole family was moved by this production. We were completely taken to a different place and time and were changed by the experience. It has now become a favorite. Acting and directing are superb. And what is portrayed is taken from written documents of the time, so most everything is true.
